Pay is negotiable and will depend on verified qualifications/experience.

This position may be filled by Probation, Promotion, Demotion, Job Appointment or Lateral Transfer.

Preference may be given to permanent classified employees of Central Louisiana Supports and Services Center.

This job is in a career progression group and may be filled at a higher level.

As part of the Career Progression Group , vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Police Officer 1 or 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum monthly salary for the Police Officer 2 is $5,620.00.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.

May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course.

May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.

For some positions, applicant must be eligible for bond.

Job Concepts

FUNCTION OF WORK:

To protect lives and property by conducting foot and mobile security patrols, enforcing parking and traffic regulations, rendering emergency services, investigating minor crimes, and making arrests when necessary. Provides a limited range of police services.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Entry.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General from a higher-level police official. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

LOCATION OF WORK:

Statewide.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from Police Officer 2 by the absence of experienced level duties.

Provides foot or mobile security patrol and enforces parking regulations.

Responds to emergencies and renders assistance as required.

Prepares reports on activities.

Provides crowd and traffic control at special events; may be required to intervene in situations utilizing force if necessary to make an arrest, restore order, prevent interference with normal operations, and to protect persons or property.
