Position Description The Anoka County Parks mission is as a department of Anoka County, our mission is to positively impact the quality of life in Anoka County by providing parks, outdoor recreation, and leisure services for the public. Our mission encompasses the protection of the natural environment, improving the health of citizens, and supporting a strong local economy. The department has an immediate opening for Seasonal Associate Park Services Specialist (Intern) who will perform various duties. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include providing Park guests with excellent customer service and information regarding public safety and the protection of Parks department properties and natural resources. Park Services Interns are given the opportunity to learn how seasonal administrative and management operations are run within the Anoka County parks. As an intern you will gain knowledge while working alongside various members of the Parks Department, providing support while performing essential duties and responsibilities. This is a seasonal, non-exempt, on-siteposition. Interviews will take place as applications are received for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. The position requires a 12-week minimum commitment to begin in April or May and may be extended through September. Pay & Benefits Salary: $15.00 per hour. Professional development opportunities. Work Location This position will work at Bunker Hills Campground Visitor Center located at 13101 County Parkway B, Coon rapids MN 55433. Expected work hours are varied including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, for 25-40 hours per week. This may include extended hours on weekends and holidays as required. Work schedule is primarily Sunday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Schedule is somewhat flexible and may vary based on business needs, and at supervisor's discretion. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all-inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of the primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Seasonal Associate Park Services Specialist (Intern). Provide Park guests with excellent customer service and information regarding public safety and protection of Parks department properties and natural resources. Oversee and assist campground and other park operations by greeting guests, providing supplies, opening, and closing facilities. Respond to daily operation problems and concerns. Troubleshoot, repair, and/or contact the supervisor for assistance. Receive, mediate, and resolve customer complaints or concerns. Schedule campground reservations and assist with reservation management and campground retail operations. Assist with coordination of program and facility marketing, outreach, and participation in community events. Work hands-on in Park Services operations. Help schedule and train seasonal staff. Review shift reports and assist with accounting and supervision of cash handling procedures. Assist with implementation and administration of campground events and programs. Complete all required coursework as assigned by respective college or university. Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Must have a valid driver's license. Successfully pass a criminal history and driver's license background check. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program in Parks and Recreation or a closely related field. Previous customer service and Cash handling experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to analyze situations and determine the best course of action for the situation. Leadership, planning, organizing, and problem solving. Detailed and accurate record keeping. Complete assigned job duties as well as maintain performance standards and goals. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Read and interpret manuals and county policies and procedures. Effectively use a computer, radio, and office equipment Physical Demands and Work Conditions Indoor and outdoor county worksites in all weather conditions depending on assignment Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness. Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, prolonged walking on sloped or uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipment Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs. Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
