About our opportunity:

The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the positions of Parking Attendant in the Transportation Department. The purpose of this classification is to operate and maintain facilities, buildings, and grounds for the Parking Operations division.

  • What you’ll be doing:

  • Inspection of Assigned Parking Facility

You will explore your assigned parking facility to investigate any minor maintenance issues, observe and document (as-appropriate) examples of garage misuse (e.g. improper parking, abandonment of vehicles, loitering, criminal activity) and report your findings to your supervisor.

Coordinate the Entrance and Exit of Vehicles

You will provide parking-related guidance and instruction to our visitors. This can include directing customers through Special Event procedures and collecting payment for public parking.

Troubleshoot Equipment Issues

You will identify malfunctions with gates and/or pay stations and report them to your supervisor.

Reporting

You will chronicle your correspondence, checklists, mileage records on an as-needed basis. When requested to do so, you will comply with providing digital and/or hardcopy records.

Tidying/Cleaning Up

You will attend to the common use surfaces and floors found in the rooms, doorways, hallways, stairs, elevators, and parking areas within your assigned facility. When requested, you will vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, polish, deodorize, disinfect, or otherwise clean as directed. You might be directed to also replenish soap and paper products, empty waste receptacles, replace liners, and dispose of trash/recycling. When necessary, you will help sanitize employee break rooms, offices and bathrooms to make these common areas safe for you and your coworkers.

Additional Functions:

Performs other related duties as required.

  • This is a Full Time (30 hours) position with access to the entire benefits suite at the City of Asheville including Medical, Dental, and Life insurance options.

    We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered :

    • High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of related work experience preferred or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Hiring Rate: $18.25 per hour

Schedule for this position will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7:00am to 6:00pm.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, hazardous materials, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, or disease.
