Performs engineering work. Work involves job rotation, training and continuing education in design, construction, construction inspection, maintenance, surveying, environmental and/or transportation operations-related activities with the intent to actively pursue engineering licensing/registration through appropriate training and exams. Design activity is supervised by a licensed professional engineer who has authority for final approval of all projects. Work includes assignments in other offices in the Atlanta District to support business needs of the district and obtain cross-training opportunities. These offices include the following locations:Marshall Area Office, 300 East Loop 390 N, Marshall, TX 75672Mount Pleasant Area Office, 2210 Ferguson, Mount Pleasant, TX 75455Texarkana Area Office, 520 Sowell Lane, Texarkana, TX 75501The essential duties for and Engineering Assistant I, II or III include: Actively prepares for professional engineering licensing/registration through appropriate training and exams and completion/maintenance of required documentation.Applies engineering principles, methods and techniques to a wide variety of transportation-related activities.Assists in performing construction inspections.Performs engineering-related duties in the field of transportation engineering.Uses automated roadway/structural or hydraulic design programs and computer-assisted design/engineering systems.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Additional duties for and Engineering Assistant II or III include:Assists in research and problem solving of engineering-related problems.Performs design computations and plan preparations to include preparing plan sheets for construction projects.Additional duties for and Engineering Assistant III include:Assists in training less experienced engineering assistants, specialists or technicians.Reviews construction plans prepared by consultants.
