Roadway Maintenance Tech I: Performs routine (Learning) transportation operations or maintenance support work suchas: construction, maintenance, and/or material and process inspection; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavyequipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public duringemergency situations. Employees at this level follow standard practices that donot require frequent supervision of details.Roadway Maintenance Tech II: Performs moderately complex (Intermediate) transportation operations or maintenancesupport work such as: construction, contract maintenance, and material and process inspections roadway maintenanceand repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; andhelping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this levelperform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Roadway Maintenance Tech III: Performs highly complex (Advanced) transportation operations or maintenance supportwork such as construction, contract maintenance, and material and process inspection; roadway maintenance and repair;operates light and heavy equipment; preventative and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; helping the publicduring emergency situations; and training other employees. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at thislevel perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Roadway Maintenance Tech I, II, or III:- Learns to operate light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper and mower.- Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.- Assists in identifying, repairing, and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding asneeded; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.- Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers andsigns; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.- Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.- Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees andbrush.- Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completesvarious required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms and PMI.- Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.- Roadway Accidents/Inclement Weather/Natural Disasters-Must be able to respond 24/7 when notified. Assists in sandingor cleaning bridges and roads, posting warning signs, helping the public and performing other work as directed duringemergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Additional duties for a Roadway Maintenance Tech II include:- Inspects construction and routine contract maintenance methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build andmaintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.- Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markersand signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.- Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yard or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, largedragline, shovel, paint striper and dump truck.- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Additional duties for a Roadw y Maintenance Tech III include:- Inspects construction and routine and non-routine contract maintenance methods and workmanship to ensurecontractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plansand specifications.- Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highwaymarkers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.- Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large gradall, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavyasphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor and profiling/milling machine.- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
