The Department of Psychiatry - Addiction Research & Treatment for the The University of Maryland Schoolof Medicine (UMSOM) has an exciting opportunity for aMedia & Public Relations Specialist. The Department of Psychiatry has a tripartite mission of Clinical, Education, and Research agendas, serving our surrounding community and the State of Maryland, and providing expertise at a national and international level. Our Education programs are dedicated to training the next generation of physicians, scientists, and psychologists through our nationally competitive programs. This role would support projects across the Division of Addiction Research and Treatment, including the efforts of the Maryland Addiction Consultation Service, as well as the newly launched Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine. With over $43 million dollars of Federal grants and contacts, the Department is a leading clinical department within the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Through the integration of our basic science work with our T1 translational research, we are positioned to take advantage of new discoveries and developments in genetics, neuromodulation, neuroimaging, and molecular biology and chemistry. Develops, writes, and edits press releases and other communications materials. Interacts with media relations outlets to provide stories to elevate the awareness of the University. Spots media trending and prepares responses as needed. * Contributes to production and distribution of public informational materials to a target audience using social and multi-media, such as e-newsletters, publication, website content, and magazine. * Researches, writes, edits, and summarizes tributes information materials to print, broadcast, and on-line media outlets. Maintains printed inventory, databases, and digital archives. * React to and interact with media representatives to develop and maintain relationships, pitch university programs and activities, and respond to media inquiries * Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education:Bachelor's degree preferably in English, journalism, or communications. Experience:Two (2) years of related communications, marketing, media, public or client relations experience. Supervisory Experience:N/A. Certification/Licensure:N/A.
