Ankura Senior Director, Data & Technology, eDiscovery in Beijing, China

Our eDiscovery team sits within the Data & Technology practice which is one of seven practices focused on client delivery services across the Firm.

Practice Overview

The eDiscovery practice is commonly engaged to assist financial investigations, litigations and disputes, turnaround and process improvement engagements, and other critical business issues. The eDiscovery team specialises in designing and implementing processes that help clients reduce their data and review volumes. Our professionals provide workflow design and strategy for keyword search, workflow assignment setup, content analytics, conceptual search/clustering, and predictive coding, and work with clients to efficiently extract and effectively analyse client data.

We help businesses, government entities and law firms to address their most complex and pressing concerns and make well informed decisions, using some of the most advanced technology, tools and techniques.

The team’s consulting experience involves large, diverse, and often incomplete data sets across client enterprises including email, servers, cloud storage, social media, mobile devices, instant messaging and collaboration tools. The team collaborates with cybersecurity, computer forensics, data analytics and investigatory experts to assess and respond to both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of problems.

Role Overview

Your role as a Senior Director will be responsible for building the Ankura e-discovery brand in the China market and working collaboratively with the Data & Technology teams across APAC. driving new solutions, working on complex customer engagements, and operating as a subject matter expert in the eDiscovery arena. You will manage and support clients on a variety of eDiscovery engagements as well as take a leading operational role in managing and supporting our eDiscovery project managers and EDRM processes. This role is based in our Beijing office.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on delivering high quality data preparation and processing capabilities as part of our holistic eDiscovery offering

  • Take ownership of our requirement to deliver high volume data processing, while maintaining timely delivery schedules and error free results

  • Perform and manage multiple concurrent engagements, while ensuring quality and internal/external customer service is of the highest level

  • Maintain and develop our standard operation procedures, data intake, and data processing workflows

  • Continually assess the suitability of existing and emerging technology, in order to complement and/or replace as required

  • Maintain a current understanding of e-commerce data formats and how best to prepare / process these for legal review

  • Advise clients regarding the efficient use of concept clustering, near duplicate identification, email threading, and assisted review (predictive coding) within Relativity.

Specific general managerial tasks include:

  • Manage the finances of each engagement including developing, documenting, and tracking project budgets, adjusting budgets as appropriate, communicating changes in budgets internally and to the client, and managing the revenue forecasting and invoicing process

  • Manage risk throughout engagement by evaluating quality control measures and documentation throughout engagement, strategizing to fix mistakes, communicating challenges, and escalating issues internally as appropriate

  • Mentor, lead, and delegate tasks to junior grade colleagues to support their training and professional development with the goal of creating an exciting leveraged, team environment that offers challenging opportunities and support to all employees and is poised for continued expansion and success

  • Develop business development skills and contribute to the sales process by building relationships with current and potential future clients, demonstrating firm technology to potential clients, and providing supporting documentation, including proposals and cost estimates, regarding our offerings

    Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field

  • Team player who is comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

  • Prior experience as a Senior Manager overseeing computer forensics and eDiscovery matters.

  • Experience in stakeholder management and ability to interact confidently with senior management and lawyers/partners

  • Demonstrable experience of business lead generation.

  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced evolving environment.

  • Advanced decision making and problem-solving skills

  • Strong people management skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with analytics, litigation readiness, and predictive coding

  • Ideally Relativity Administrator Certified.

  • Fluent in English and Mandarin is essential.

  • Must be able to travel at short notice including nationally and internationally. Overseas engagements could be from a week to months.
