Overview

We are growing and seeking a Director of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Climate, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that willoversee the development and growth of materials for and execution of our Corporate Social Responsibility policies and procedures.

The Director of ESG, Climate and CSR will lead a team that focuses on the creation and implementation of the Company’s ESG, Climate and CSR objectives based on Burlington’s 5-year growth strategy. The Director will be responsible for managing relationships with ESG rating agency representatives, be the point of contact for investor questions and external assurance firm, as well as other external contractors, to ensure the Company’s ESG and CSR strategy and policies are compliant and effective and are represented accurately in all rating analyses. This highly visible role requires an experienced professional who has the capacity to interact closely with Executive Leadership teams and key stakeholders and demonstrates the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
General ESG Reporting: Frameworks, & Rating and Ranking Agencies

  • Oversee benchmarking of retail peer environmental metrics, emissions reduction goals, and ESG/CSR disclosures.

  • Continually evaluate applicable ESG frameworks such as GRI, SASB, CDP, TCFD and others to determine annually the most relevant public disclosures for inclusion in annual reports.

  • Engage proactively with identified key ESG rating agencies such as ISS, MSCI, Sustainalytics, Just Capital and others to determine annually those most impactful and relevant to our key investors.

  • Continually evaluate additional ESG frameworks and rating agencies as well as overarching reporting alignments and integration with emerging regulations.

  • Ongoing investigation into trending topics and opportunities in the ESG landscape (beyond retail focus), i.e., modern slavery opportunity presented by Sustainalytics, labor rights, diverse suppliers, etc. to inform Burlington subject matter experts (SME’s) of upcoming expectations in reporting.   • Participate in ongoing training and in industry group sessions on ESG topics like recent SEC carbon reporting announcement.

  • Lead effort to complete CSA, S&P, ISS, MSCI, CDP and other ESG questionnaires to ensure accurate interpretation of our publicly available ESG disclosures.

  • Coordinate various internal contributing teams including Legal, Internal Audit, Compliance, and all GHG emissions contributing departments.

  • Manage relationship with external assurance/data readiness firms for all CSR/ESG publicly stated data

Annual CSR Report

  • Oversee multi-departmental effort to collect and compile information and publish the company’s annual CSR report.

  • Lead external CSR consultant selection process & RFP’S as needed including development of scopes of work and contract terms.

  • Lead annual materiality assessment process and more intense formal comprehensive materiality assessment every 2-3 years.

  • Coordinate and oversee the monthly CSR Committee and working group mtgs.

  • Oversee data governance process in conjunction with Internal Audit and Finance teams review of public CSR and ESG metric disclosures.

  • Develop and execute process improvements for data controls and CSR and ESG disclosure approval process.

Senior Management, Board of Directors and ESG Investor Activities

  • Develop and present materials for the ESG/CSR Executive Steering Committee, which includes the CEO, Group President/CMO, President/COO, CFO, EVP CHRO/CAO, and Group President IR/Treasurer. Materials will be basis for discussions with the Executive Steering Committee regarding high-level decisions on ESG/CSR strategy, policy and disclosure issues.

  • Develop ESG/CSR presentation materials for the Board of Directors to update the Board on our ESG strategy and progress on a quarterly, or as needed, basis.

  • Research, develop and present materials for ESG investor engagement meetings.

  • Update ESG content on Burlington’s IR website.

GHG/ Carbon Accounting Tasks

  • Oversee annual carbon emissions /GHG inventory including scope 1, 2 and scope 3 emissions categories. Lead cross-departmental effort to gather various data sets that contribute to the company’s annual emissions.

  • Define, measure, and maintain Burlington’s public carbon reduction commitment(s)

  • Manage selection of external consultants for GHG calculations, tools, and platforms.

  • Oversee data governance process in conjunction with Internal Audit and Finance teams review of public GHG disclosures.

  • Oversee research and implementation of Burlington’s material scope 3 emissions categories for future measurement and reporting.

The ideal candidate brings a4-year degree, advance degree preferred, and5-10 years of experience inleading a company’s ESG and corporate social responsibility efforts;retailsector exposure or experience preferred.

  • Experience developing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report content for retail organizations

  • Familiarity with standard ESG/CSR frameworks and rating organizations such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, CDP and others to determine annually the most relevant public disclosures for inclusion in annual reports.

  • Understanding of GHG metrics, renewable energy and carbon accounting practices in relation to emissions calculations and reduction goal setting

  • Experience in budgeting and expense control, with ability to forecast impact of potential cost drivers associated with managing waste and recycling programs

  • Demonstrated leadership experience and a proven ability to drive results through others

  • Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel
