Advertised Job Summary:

The University of South Carolina invites applications for one full-time, professional track instructor position in the Department of Theatre and Dance to begin August 16, 2022. This is a 9-month non-tenure track appointment, renewable based on Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.

The Instructor of Undergraduate Design is responsible for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in the areas of scenic design, lighting design, and sound design. Teaching assignments would include introductory and intermediate classes in these design areas and classes with supervision of students during practical application related to productions in the Lab Theatre and other production venues within the department

Responsibilities include teaching a 2/2 course load per semester, collaborating with the LAB Theatre Supervisor to introduce freshman and sophomore students into the design and production programs and guide students in developing competencies and essential experiences as they advance toward graduation in the degree program.

The position is responsible for the technical execution of the design and technical elements for Lab Theatre productions; the supervision of undergraduate students assigned in production laboratory courses; supervision and training of undergraduate students in working in the Lab Theatre Shop.

A normal season in the LAB Theatre is two productions in the fall and one in the spring. We are looking for someone who is collaborative, positive, and excited to help students thrive.

Advertised Minimum Qualifications :

MFA in one of the following areas; Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Sound Design, Theatre Design and Technology, Technical Production, or a Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience as a professional or collegiate theatrical designer and/or technical director.
