Job Description: Maintains knowledge of applicable NAMSA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) in order to successfully perform Job duties. Prepares and maintains equipment, instrumentation, and tools, as directed, through washing, drying and proper storage. Assembles and autoclaves necessary supplies including surgical packs, scrub packs, surgical gowns etc. Maintains an efficient and clean work area by cleaning, organizing and re-stocking as needed. Cleans and sanitizes equipment as needed. Changes garbage and recycling and brings to dumpster as needed. Maintains laundry by washing, drying, and folding. Handles, processes and appropriately stores blood samples and specimens. Creates and labels products appropriately. Performs inventory and thoroughly checks products for expiration dates. Prints, organizes, files, and archives paperwork. Restrains large animals. Assists with basic animal husbandry tasks, including feeding. Assists with animal movement and other non-technical tasks (i.e. shaving, cage side monitoring, preparing medications (non-controlled substances) etc)). Assists in updating scheduling whiteboards as needed. Attends department meetings and provides constructive feedback as necessary. Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions: The Associate is regularly exposed to, and may come in contact with, a variety of livestock, domestic and laboratory animals. The Associate may be exposed to sharps, gasses such as CO2 and isoflurane, fluoroscopy, zoonotic diseases, wet conditions (non-weather), and toxic or caustic chemicals. The associate is occasionally exposed to BSL2 bacteria/viruses in a controlled environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud. Hearing protection is required in designated areas and when performing specific tasks. While performing the duties of this job, the Associate is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear, reach with hands and arms, and is occasionally required to use hands and fingers to perform meticulous tasks. The Associate is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The Associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The Associate may be required to stand for extended periods of time
