The Salvation Army Summer Camp Unit Coordinator in Dorchester, Massachusetts

Overview

    Work with the Education Manager to implement the day-to-day activities of the children enrolled in the Camp

Responsibilities

  • Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily activities such as devotions, crafts, mystery programs, recreation, music, drama, lunch, snacks, games, trips, etc.

  • Provide supervision and general childcare.

  • Prepare Devotional Time (Bible story or Spiritual object lesson, Choruses and Prayer) once or twice a week for the entire day camp.

  • Handle all disciplinary action in accordance with the Camp Manual. Report problems immediately to the Education Manager.

  • Clean up and set up of activity areas as directed by Education Manager.

  • Receive and dismiss children daily in the designated area.

  • Assist with camp training for counselors and junior counselors.

  • Assist in developing course and subject specific curriculum for school aged children.

  • Candidate is also responsible for various administrative tasks, which may include ordering supplies, coordinating schedules, and completing all necessary reports and record keeping.

  • Assist Education Manager in overseeing the daily activities, general camp operations and programs to ensure a quality camp.

  • Lead and assist in weekly staff meetings and debriefing.

  • Be enthusiastic and thorough in leading and teaching program curriculums.

  • Set a Christian example for the children, parents, staff and volunteers.

  • Represent The Salvation Army’s spiritual ministry and social mission in the Camp program.

  • Engage in Christian spiritual conversation with members of the public and in the corps.

  • Recognize spiritual need of persons which may require referral to the Corps.

  • Must complete Camp Staff Orientation which includes Keep SAfe Training

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

  • Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Associates Degree or bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Guidance, Human Services, Nursing, Psychology, Physical Education, Recreation, Child Psychology, the Arts, Social Work, Sociology or Child Care strongly preferred.

  • Work/Volunteer Experience

  • Minimum of six months experience working or volunteering with school age children.

  • Must have experience with Christian Education Programs for school age children such as Sunday School or Vacation Bible Study.

  • Other Qualifications

  • Must have a keen interest and sincere appreciation for children.

  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age.

    Must complete Camp Staff Orientation
