Job Summary and Qualifications

The Division Director, Media Relations reports to the Division AVP, Strategic Communications and serves as the Division’s primary media contact and media relations strategist. The chief responsibilities for this position are to develop proactive and responsive media relations plans and to engage and build relationships with members of the media on behalf of the Enterprise. It also includes providing media relations counsel to the Division and hospitals, and assisting in the development of communications plans. In addition, the Division Director, Media Relations is responsible for overseeing the creation of support tools that aid local and Division public relations efforts.

The Division Director, Media Relations will support the reinforcement of local market brands in the media. S/he will identify stories that are proof points to the brand promise and demonstrate the value of the local market and HCA Healthcare brands. S/he will build an understanding of happenings across the enterprise to ensure coordinated responses with cohesive messaging.

What you will do in this role:

Media Relationship Building and Engagement

· ​​ Engages with media, including local and regional media outlets on behalf of the Division as a representative of HCA Healthcare.

· Prepares senior executives and other thought leaders and subject matter experts for media interviews.

· Provides support and guidance to Divisions and hospitals regarding media inquiries, including strategy and development of response language.

· Develops and establish relationships with local media.

· Works with reporters proactively to generate positive media coverage.

· Partners with the Corporate and Division communications teams to help generate news stories that support efforts by the following stakeholder groups: Government Relations, Payor Relations, PSG, PPR, HR, Nursing, Development, Community Engagement, etc.

Proactive Media Planning

· ​​ Develops earned media plans in collaboration with other Divisions to ensure alignment.

· Evaluates and coordinates speaking engagements and high-level key notes at community and press events.

· Establishes a framework for measurement of PR, Earned Media, and owned communications efforts.

· Stays abreast of hospital news, trends, services, and objectives through building and maintaining relationships with various "clients" (clinical and operational leaders from throughout the Division), physicians, physician liaisons, and others who serve as resources for information, which can be directed as appropriate to external or internal audiences.

o Provides direct communication and counsel to hospital CEOs and other leadership members when appropriate.

o Proofreads and review all content prior to publication.

Story and Content Development

· Partners with the Corporate and Division communications teams to advance content that supports the following areas: Government Relations, Payor Relations, PSG, PPR, Nursing, Development, Community Engagement, HR, etc.

· Collaborates with corporate communications, Division leadership, and other stakeholders (including, but not limited to, Human Resources, Government Relations, Payor Relations, Clinical Services, Physician Services, Nursing, and Information Technology) to effectively cascade communication and key messages to colleagues within the Division and its markets.

· Develops media materials, such as press releases, talking points, standby statements, etc.

· Manages and maintains repositories to help Enterprise and Divisions/hospitals generate positive earned media coverage and respond effectively to media inquiries on a variety of topics.

Crisis Management

· Works with the leadership and communication team to manage and implement approved crisis communications plan, including spokesperson identification, media talking points, media coordination, and internal and external messaging.

· Monitors major issues and develops communication strategies to address them; leads team in generating press releases and provides consultation, content, editing and approval; leads crisis and issues management plans; and helps develop statements and talking points.

· Works with corporate media team on any media that may impact the HCA Healthcare Enterprise.

What qualifications you will need:

● Bachelor’s degree required

● Master’s degree preferred

● 7+ years of experience in a leadership role
