Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Exemption Classification: Salary, Exempt

Salary: $70,500k-$80,500k/year

Summary:

Design & engineer products, equipment, and coordinate large projects and programs utilizing the prepared proposal, budget and customer specifications to provide computer generated drawings for fabrication while focusing on reducing cost and cycle time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS to PERFORM DUTIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review and utilize engineering files prepared by sales and applications.

• Review customer’s specifications and use as a design tool.

• Interact and communicate with customers as project dictates.

• Requisition all necessary purchased & stock material for machines through purchasing within proposed budget constraints.

• Support R&D initiatives.

• Design machines utilizing Solid works while following prototype and drawing standards.

• Self-starter able to complete projects with minimal supervision with multiple deadlines and tight time constraints.

• Ability to work in an extremely fast paced environment, ability to switch priorities and make sound decisions promptly.

• Prepare customer approval drawings.

• Prepare maintenance manual line up forms.

• Assist manufacturing personnel as needed to ensure smooth build of machinery.

• Work with purchasing to expedite materials when needed.

• Perform an “In House” engineering run off, debug and resolve any problems before customer run-off.

• Notify sales of upcoming customer machine runoffs.

• Follow up on items that may need to be addressed before machine ships.

• Prepare and distribute all project related documentation and correspondence.

• Responsible to support jobs in the field during the start-up and through the warranty period.

• Manage the Reliability and Maintainability issues for assigned jobs to meet Quality requirements.

• Responsible to work within or below material and labor budgets

• Assist in the training of new engineering employees.

• Other Functions as directed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

To Mechanical Engineers, Controls Engineers and Designers as directed by the Chief engineer or Director of Engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, 7+ years’ experience in related field. Must have advanced knowledge of computers, engineering concepts, and project management with extensive experience in SolidWorks. A high degree of technical expertise in mechanical mechanism design and interface with electronics. Static FEA experience and proficiency using Microsoft products.

Language Skills:

Communicate verbally and/or in writing with other employees, other departments, supervisors, customers and management as to work in progress, problems and/or completion. Must be able to present information to groups of employees, customers, vendors etc. with poise and confidence.

Mathematical Skills:

Must be able to perform advanced level mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, strength of materials, etc.) and use industry related calculations and formulas.

Reasoning Ability:

Be able to perform complex root cause analysis to determine process failure/friction points and provide multiple corrective actions. Make informed decisions that are data driven through engineering analysis.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

Maintain local, regional and/or national membership in appropriate professional organizations/associations.

Physical Demands:

Sit at workstation for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to adjust visual focus. May be required to reach, stoop and/or bend on an as needed basis. Must be able to climb stairs as necessary.

Work Environment:

Work in a controlled office environment, along with traditional shop atmosphere. Can be exposed to loud noises and various fumes or smells based on job requirements. Work around high voltage machinery.

Travel:

Must be able to periodically travel to customer’s jobsite for start ups, machine commissioning and warranty work as dictated by project. All projects do not require travel, most stays are from 1 to 2 days, and some could be more.
