Job Purpose Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for Adjunct faculty to teach evening courses in ElectricalTechnology-related courses. There may be additional sections to be taught at any location including daytime, online, virtually and/or at area high schools. This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position accepted on an on-going basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area.

Position Description

  • Provide formal instruction and leadership in electrical technology
  • Specify, select, install, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific course(s) being taught within departmental budget restraints
  • Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance, including current grades in a course(s) taught
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grades, attendance, and other miscellaneous reports to the administration
  • Participate in professional development
  • Successfully complete important assessment work
  • Provides related instruction with shop, laboratory, or other occupational experience that is appropriate to the career objectives of the student
  • Exhibits positive human relations skills
  • Utilizes student-centered teaching strategies
  • Maintains an environment that is conducive to learning with particular attention to safety practices, good housekeeping, and student behavior
  • Implement activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives
  • Develops career-related instructional materials relative to technological changes in business and industry
  • Must have the ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds and abilities
  • Performing other duties/instruction, as assigned by the respective instructor(s) and administrators

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • A minimum of two (2) years of industry-related experience, which can be at an educational setting
  • Basic computer skills using programs such as Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Associate degree or higher in Electrical Technology
  • One - Two (1-2) years of teaching/training experience
  • Must be a Journeyman Electrician. The Journeyman Electrician Certification must be from an accredited institution, i.e., the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers or The United States Department of Labor, or Pass the Prometric Exam with documented third-party hands-on experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years (10,000 clock hours) of industry-related experience in AC and DC Motor Theory, Troubleshooting, Reading Electrical Diagrams (Schematics and Wiring), Conduit Bending, Motor Controls (3 Phase), Residential Wiring of 3-Way and 4 Way Switches, Circuit Breaker Panels (100amp and above), Transformers, La out of circuits, Motor and Power Control Centers, and knowledge on the Current National Electrical Code
  • Teaching experience in open enrollment, urban community college
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy

Work Schedule Primarily working evening hours. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs, may require weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
