City of Rawlins Facilities Maintenance Specialist I in Rawlins, Wyoming

The City of Rawlins is seeking aFacilities Maintenance Specialist Ito join our team. This is a full-time non-exempt position working under the direction of the Community Development Director.

Performs a variety of complex, skilled duties related to the construction, maintenance and repair of city buildings and facilities; backup power systems, switching equipment etc.; maintains, repairs, maintains light fixtures, ; monitors mechanical apparatus such as motors, belts, pulleys etc. to assure proper operation;

Organization:The City of Rawlins operates under a council-manager form of government, which consists of seven Council members. Six members are elected by wards and one on an at-large basis. The Mayor serves as the leader of the Council and is selected every two years by the seated Council.

Full Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE Performs a variety of working level skilled maintenance tasks requiring a wide range of skills including carpentry, plumbing, painting, boiler maintenance, and general grounds and custodial care. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general supervision of the Facilities Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Facilities Construction and Remodel: Performs a variety of complex, skilled duties related to the construction, maintenance and repair of city buildings and facilit es; , backup power systems, switching equipment etc.; maintains, repairs, maintains light fixtures, ; monitors mechanical apparatus such as motors, belts, pulleys etc. to assure proper operation;

Inventory Monitoring: Monitors typical inventory requirements for ongoing projects; ; obtains tools from storage area needed to perform.

Ongoing Maintenance and Prevention: Performs preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment; ; maintains boilers, domestic hot water systems and pumps; maintains utility systems, athletic facilities and similar structures;

Performs general maintenance on various types of buildings, equipment and systems, i.e.., motors, pumps, valves, bearings, floats, pulleys, belts, switches, relays, plugs, light ballasts, light photo cells, fuses, circuit breakers, timers, transformers, , door hardware, floor and ceiling repair, dry wall, painting, caulking, etc.; repairs concrete installations.

Performs installation and repair of plumbing piping and fixtures, assures proper pump size to achieve required pressure; performs routine plumbing; clears and cleans drain obstructions; maintains sinks, urinals, toilet's assists tradesman in plumbing work.

Performs general carpentry; maintains physical aspects of the city buildings such as window and door frames, woodwork; fabricates shelving, repairs furniture; repairs or replaces locks; assists tradesman in carpentry work. Monitors status of buildings and facilities regarding safety standards; makes recommendations related to the replacement or upgrading of facilities to comply with established safety codes and regulations.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Education and Experience

A. Graduation from high school or equivalent. AND B. Two (2) years of experience involving building maintenance requiring skill in carpentry, plumbing, and other related fields; OR C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working level knowledge of construction techniques, and methods related to carpentry, plumbing, or computerized maintenance systems; methods, materials and equipment used in the operation and all maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures; hazards associated with caustic chemicals and acids; mechanical systems, boilers, small motors, etc.; interpersonal communication skills.

Some Skill in performing various mechanical, and general maintenance and construction duties, i.e., carpentry, plumbing or some other construction field; use of a variety of hand and power tools such as hammers, saws, wrenches, sanders and other tools common to building maintenance and repair.

Ability to diagnose mechanical, ; determine needs for services and supplies necessary to carry out the task; lift and carry moderately heavy loads; operate grounds equipment and power tools; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; develop effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the public; to work independently: deal effectively with stress caused by work load and time deadlines.
