Microsoft Corporation Sustainability Program Manager – Sustainable Cloud Packaging in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft’s Cloud business is experiencing explosive growth, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth. Our mission is to deliver the world’s computer with an industry-leading supply chain. CSCP is responsible for strategic sourcing, customer demand forecasting, capacity planning and management, supply chain planning and execution, capacity provisioning, and decommissioning and dispositioning of datacenter assets worldwide.

The Cloud Sourcing Spares Sustainability & Security (CS4) team sits under the Cloud Supply Chain Provisioning (CSCP) team.

The CS4 PMO: Sustainability team within CS4 is at the center of the company’s strategy for Azure data center supply chain carbon and waste goals.  The CS4 PMO manages the centralized governance, framework and sustainability strategy aligned across various organizations in Azure Cloud aggregating toward annual targets. This Sustainability Program Manager – Sustainable Cloud Packaging role will help drive and implement projects supporting the Circular Packaging program within the CS4 PMO: Sustainability team. This role will also partner closely with other teams within the organization working on packaging design, alternative reusable materials pilots, and alternative materials. This role will also bring together the program key performance indicators and tracking across all waste reduction programs into one central update for leadership consumption. We are seeking an experienced candidate with good business acumen, understanding and passion for sustainability, good interpersonal skills, organizational, and great collaboration skills will be key.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting projects to deliver Sustainable Packaging program goals

  • Driving weekly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual business reviews with global suppliers based on existing process

  • Reviewing documentation (business requirements, contracts (statement of work and master service agreements) as needed) 

  • Partnering with consulting firms in managing and implementing effective program strategies to support Microsoft sustainability goals

  • Engaging with business owners and stakeholders in multiple functional areas to identify and document key sustainability program launch goals, priorities, work streams, and deliverables

  • Partnership with (Original Equipment Manufacturers) OEMs / System Integrators to identify, develop and validate new technologies in Cloud Asset Packaging and Sourcing

  • Build quick-turn deliverables from defined outlines while working against long-term timelines and objectives

  • Collaborate with internal org stakeholders, guiding processes to advance and improve program launch

  • Work closely with Packaging Engineers to create a roadmap for eliminating single use plastic from all the IT Assets of Microsoft Cloud Data Centres

  • Communicate progress, status, and summarized updates of sustainability program plans to internal and external audiences

  • Manage interactions & coordinate with key stakeholder groups

  • Work with internal partners effectively and closely to create quick wins Serve as a subject matter expert regarding key sustainability topics of interest such as carbon reduction and removal strategy, supply chain decarbonization, identifying intervention strategies to help further reduce carbon emissions

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in Engineering, Operations, Project Management, or Programming.

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in Engineering, Operations, Project Management, or Programming

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in the ability to make progress on work product and meet deliverables and milestones while maintaining stakeholder visibility and communication

  • 1+ years of experience successfully designing and launching major projects, products, or business initiatives

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree and 8+ years of experience cumulative in roles that either o Focuses on sustainability/climate issues/sustainable packaging and sourcing OR o Has a business/senior program management or leadership focus on packaging

  • 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects

  • Growth mindset - learns from mistakes and brings demonstrated problem-solving capability

  • Quick-switch ability to react to client direction, changing priorities, and new deadlines

  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to multitask within competing priorities, program schedules, and business needs

  • Experience and knowledge in Packaging & Sourcing preferred

  • Familiar with project management concepts and tools, e.g., enterprise business applications and online collaboration tools

  • Experience providing clear recommendations drawn from heterogenous information.

  • Able to collaborate well in a tight-knit team moving quickly

Technical Solution Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,200 - $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $142,200 - $213,200 per year.
