Allegion Lead - SQL Server database administrator in Remote, Mexico

Lead SQL Database Administrator

The Lead SQL Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for leading the SQL Server DBA team that is part of Allegions Site Reliability Engineering team. The person in this role will manage and maintain Allegion’s SQL database systems both in the cloud and on-premise as a member of that team. This role plays a critical role in ensuring the security, integrity, and performance of the database environments across the Allegion landscape.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills with teammates, other Allegion teams, management, and vendors.

What You Will Do:

  • Designs and implements database structures and schemas to meet business requirements.

  • Installs, configures, and upgrades SQL database software and related products in the cloud and on-premise.

  • Monitors database performance and optimizing SQL queries, indexes, and database configurations for optimal performance.

  • Implements and maintains database security measures, including access control, authentication, data encryption, unauthorized access and cyber threats.

  • Implements and manages database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.

  • Identifies and resolves database issues, such as connectivity problems and data corruption.

  • Estimates future database storage requirements and plans for scalability and growth.

  • Creates and maintains technical documentation, including database schemas, configurations, diagrams, and procedures.

  • Respond to incidents and events with a methodical approach to assess and troubleshoot all types of production (performance, access, accuracy, etc.) issues.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement IT solutions that meet business requirements and provides efficient and effective use of database resources.

  • Provide on-call support for critical production system within a team environment.

  • Improve system related processes, and automate non-value add activities.

  • Define and apply best practices and standardizations for on-premise and cloud environments and implementations.

  • Lead, plan and execute database migrations, upgrade projects and any database activities stemming from mergers or acquisitions.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience.

  • 7+ years of experience in managing SQL Server database systems.

  • Certification in SQL Server administration is preferred.

  • Proven experience in using and managing SQL Server on premise and Azure SQL, SSMS, SSIS and SSRS systems.

  • Understanding of database security principles and best practices, including user management, access controls and data encryption.

  • Ability to identify and resolve database issues using monitoring tools and performance metrics.

  • Knowledge of scripting languages to automate tasks and database administration activities.

  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex database related issues in a timely manner.

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.

  • Proven experience in managing large-scale SQL Server databases in a production environment.

  • Understanding of relational database management systems and their principles.

  • Ability to drive change and influence without managerial authority.

  • Ability to work in a remote setting while performing duties on multi-national systems, teams and environments.

  • Familiarity with industry best practices and emerging trends in SQL Server database administration.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
