Research Scientist/Engineer 2 (E S UAW RSE) will use state of the art technologies to study the pathology of a broad range of diseases, including neoplastic, infectious and inflammatory disorders. In order to understand human diseases using advanced technologies, in vitro models and animal models.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform established laboratory procedures in the execution of specific research projects, and provide technical support for spatial transcriptomics core – 85%

  • Follow established laboratory procedures and SOPs, maintaining required documentation.

  • Perform standard histological techniques.

  • Execute experiments using Nanostring CosMx and GeoMx platforms.

  • Perform assays on fluids, tissues and cells, including IF, IHC, ISH, ELISA, and real-time PCR.

  • Support development of new tissue-based assays.

  • Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.Lab Operations – 15%

  • Teach laboratory techniques to new members.

  • Organize and analyze service metrics and research data; prepare data for presentations, manuscripts and grant applications.

  • Prepare laboratory reagents; order and restock laboratory supplies.

  • Assist laboratory members with experiments and service order.

  • Participate in laboratory meetings.

  • Perform related duties as required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field, AND two (2) years of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination of education/experience.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Specific knowledge, skills and abilities to perform job:

  • Histological techniques.

  • Competency in molecular biology.

  • Ability to learn and master new laboratory skills.

  • High motivation level and excellent attention to detail and good laboratory practice (e.g. strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures).

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Good time management skills, and ability to multitask. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience with RNAse free techniques, PCR, RT-PCR and sequencing library preparation.

  • Basic histology lab skills – embedding, sectioning, and special staining.

  • Experience with advanced staining techniques: immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and RNA in situ hybridization (ISH).

  • Cell and tissue culture – not required, but desirable.

  • Mouse colony management – not required, but desirable.
