Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a professional and highly independent position that works in the FDOH-SJC Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) department. This position is based out of FDOH-SJC 200 San Sebastian View, St Augustine, FL; however, this position will also conduct the duties and responsibilities throughout St Johns County at designated locations. Completes the processes related to WIC following the WIC Procedure Manual (https://floridahealth.sharepoint.com/sites/COMMUNITYHEALTH/WIC/Intranet/Pages/manual.aspx) . Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Determining eligibility or coordinating the eligibility for the WIC program.

  • Completing or obtaining anthropometric measurements.

  • Providing nutrition counseling, establishing nutrition care plans, and documenting activities accordingly.

  • Coordinating issuance or completing the issuance process for WIC benefits. Provides breastfeeding support to pregnant and postpartum women. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting prenatal classes to assist the breastfeeding peer counselor.

  • Attending breastfeeding support groups as needed.

  • Distributing manual and electric pumps when appropriate. Completes processes related to WIC high risk and medically high-risk clients. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assessing the need for specialty formula and determining the appropriate usage and amount of specialty formula.

  • Completing and documenting appropriate case notes, assessments, and nutritional care plans.

  • Distributing specialty formula as appropriate and as needed.

  • Ordering specialty formula and completing the process associated with ordering.

    Participates in outreach activities for the FDOH-SJC as needed.

  • Ensures the integrity/confidentiality of all data sets in the program; complies with the information security protocols and procedures (DOHP 50-10-16); security and privacy of client information is maintained; disclosure of confidential information is released only after proper authorization has been obtained; and information that is exempt from public record disclosure is maintained in a confidential manner.

    All other duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the current science and practice of nutrition or dietetics. Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques. Knowledge of community resources. Knowledge of basic arithmetic. Skilled in communicating effectively and providing excellent customer service. Ability to interview clients to identify needs and assist clients in accessing community resources. Ability to understand and apply the methods and practices used by this position in medical, nutrition, child development or childcare settings. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others. Within 30 days, be proficient in Value Enhancement Nutrition Assessment (VENA).

    Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in nutrition science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition?
