Boehringer Ingelheim Specialist, Automation in St. Joseph, Missouri

Description

The Specialist, Automation should have knowledge of AVEVA System Platform DCS and process integrations to our upstream and downstream of the Antigen MFG processes. This role will collaborate with engineers, maintenance tech, manufacturing personnel and supervision on support the antigen manufacturing process equipment, work methods, troubleshooting techniques and continuous improvement implementation. The incumbent will demonstrate proficiency with various technologies and equipment types such as the fermentation, antigen recovery, clarification, chromatography and fill/finished process.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Specialist, Automation will provide hands-on technical troubleshooting as well as perform training in the efficient setup and operation and utility equipment including all aspects of mechanical, electrical, electromechanical system such as drive, instruments, controls, servos, robots, vision, conveying manipulating and production handling equipment. The incumbent will enter maintenance work orders into the Facilities Maintenance system as required and ensure that equipment repairs and enhancements are implemented as soon as possible.

  • Troubleshoots and implements corrective action where equipment experiences performance issues.

  • Provides off shift and weekend support calls as necessary.

  • Identifies, determines, and seeks approvals within guidelines for equipment upgrades to enhance performance and reliability.

  • Supports training of production operators and supervisors on best operational practices of electro-mechanical.

  • Assists and supports process engineering, operation leads, project lead, involving electro-mechanical applications relative to all facets of design, scope, performance parameters, testing and implementation.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management, to support operations.

  • Utilizes CMMS per SOP to assure proper documentation of work.

  • Keeps current on new technologies impacting self-knowledge and the equipment.

  • Complies with regulatory requirements relative to the EU, FDA, USDA, APHIS, OSHA as well as local and state requirements of our business.

  • Ensures particular attention to cGMP requirements for modification of production equipment.

  • Follows Company policy and SOP's relative to all aspects of this position including financial, environmental health and safety, training etc.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED.

  • Relevant bachelor or associate degree Computer Science, Engineering, Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college is preferred.

  • In addition to HS degree/GED, a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in troubleshooting various automation communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC); executing automation integration principals and cascading automation controls for operations equipment; and troubleshooting electrical prints in PLC panel in low and high voltage. Experience must be inclusive of working in a cGMP organization or similar environment.

  • With relevant bachelor's degree, a minimum of three (3) years’ experiences as described above.

  • With relevant associate degree, a minimum of five (5) years as described above.

Additional requirements include:

  • Working knowledge of the packaging process equipment, instrumentation, and/or computerized systems typically applied to biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes.

  • Detail-oriented, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.

  • Ability to be flexible and manage change.

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with technical and management staff.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Strong analytical skills to identify potential improvement opportunities, and drive to opportunities to realization.

  • Allen Bradley troubleshooting skills in Rockwell platform in the PLCs, AVEVA system platform, HMI and AB panel view.

  • Proficient in troubleshooting varies automation communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, PLC, understand the automation integration principal in automation cascade controls between the DCS platform to the packaging equipment end devices.

  • Proficient in electrical troubleshooting with electrical prints in PLC control panel in low and high voltage.

Eligibility Requirements :

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
