SUNY Upstate Medical University Infusion Coordinator in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

This position will be the main supporting role in the infusion area of Adult Hematology/Oncology Department, providing independent scheduling of infusion procedures, ensuring required testing, prior authorization, orders, and appointments are finalized prior to applicable infusion appointment date. Will assign patients to specific infusion chair based on level of acuity and length of treatment. This will require knowledge of acuity scoring tools and ability to deduce appropriate infusion chair time based on existing templates and established treatment plan. Interprets oncology and supportive care treatment plans, as established in patient medical record, to determine long-term appointment scheduling needs.

Responsible for the collection of and analysis of data regarding number and type of infusion visits, overall use of infusion chairs, acuity scoring per chair assignment which will require knowledge of CDM codes, payer mix, and ability to use and process data in Excel or database. Will report to management for quality improvement and make autonomous decisions to revise scheduling practices based on data. Proficiently schedules patient infusion appointments using an electronic medical record and computerized scheduling system. Ensures required testing, orders, prior authorization, and required appointments are finalized prior to applicable infusion appointment date. Provides accurate information, in person and via telephone, regarding scheduled appointments to patients, nursing, and physicians.

Acts as a liaison for physicians, clinic staff, infusion room staff, and procedure room staff regarding policies, procedures, and actual schedule information. Works closely with Patient Service Leader and Patient Service Supervisor regarding clinical prioritization of infusion chairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree in Business or Health Related Field, two (2) years relevant experience (preferably in a health related setting) or equivalent combination of education and experience required plus excellent written/oral communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required. Working knowledge of computer, electronic medical record, and data processing skills desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in an outpatient health related setting preferred. EPIC experience preferred.

Work Days:

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
