The Heavy Equipment Operator safely operates and maintains heavy equipment used in the upkeep of Williams County roads

Examples of Duties The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and may change with or without notice. Incumbents must be able to perform the essential function of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Operates a variety of trucks and heavy equipment including, but not limited to, scrapers, motor graders, snowplows, dozer, backhoe, and loader
  • Transports materials, vehicles, and equipment to and from job sites
  • Repairs and maintains surfaces through activities such as patching asphalt and sealing cracks in pavement
  • Performs routine inspection and maintenance on trucks and equipment; reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair
  • Performs manual labor activities, including snow and debris removal, snow fence maintenance, foliage maintenance, and others as assigned
  • Adheres to safety rules and regulations on all work sites, reports safety hazards and traffic problems
  • Acts in the interest of public safety and personal property protection during emergencies
  • Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.

Typical Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent;ANDthree (3) year of related work experience;ORan equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Class A CommercialDrivers License required
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

Special Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather
  • Work is performed in and around mechanical, industrial, and electrical equipment
  • Emergency on-call work is required
